Pros And Cons Of Being A Salon Based Beauty Therapist
People are often attracted to the benefits of being a mobile beautician, but there are also many cons that come with it too. Working self employed and being based within a beauty salon can often be a good alternative, so let’s take a look at the pros and cons.
Pros
- You’ll be working from a comfortable and professional space, already prepared and set up for you to work from - you’ll have space for storage too and somewhere to make a cup of tea!
- You’ll have access to the salon’s social media pages by sharing your posts and treatments, giving you extra advertising and access to potential new clients
- The salon will usually refer clients to you if they phone or message to book in appointments, so give you access to a wider pool of customers without having to find them yourself
- It can be nice having other beauty therapists to work alongside for social chat, advice and support - you can help each other and share knowledge
- Some clients prefer coming to an appointment in a professional salon environment rather than an home-based or mobile salon, as they like the surroundings of a beauty salon
Cons
- You may have to adhere to the salon opening days and times, so you won’t have the same flexibility of working the hours you want to
- There will be the extra competition of working alongside other beauty therapists who offer the same treatments
- There are additional costs to consider such as chair rental and you’ll have to pay this regardless of whether you have clients booked in or not
- Some clients don’t like coming to a salon environment for treatments or may not be able to book appointments within those opening hours, so you could miss out on people who require appointments in the evenings
- Some salons can be quite busy on popular days, so you’d have to be comfortable working around lots of people
So if you’re considering becoming a beauty therapist and working from a salon it’s worth considering all these points.
